Shawn Pearson is a judge for the Sixth Judicial District in Minnesota. He was appointed to the court on May 28, 2021, by Governor Tim Walz (D) to replace Shaun R. Floerke.[1] He served the rest of Floerke's term, which ended in 2024.
Education
Pearson earned his B.A. from the University of Chicago and J.D. from the Georgetown University Law Center.[1]
Biography
Pearson's legal career started in a Chicago-based firm representing workers injured by asbestos, where he worked as a law clerk. He was trained as a mediator, and handled a variety of employment discrimination matters in state and federal courts. He has also practiced with Barnes & Thornburg and Mansfield, Tanick & Cohen, where he litigated a wide variety of civil matters across the state and in the Minnesota Court of Appeals. He also worked as in-house counsel for General Mills and Essentia Health. Before joining the Sixth Judicial District, Pearson represented parents in child protection matters in Northern Minnesota and volunteered as a pro bono attorney for the Children’s Law Center.[1]
