Sheffield Nelson
Sheffield Nelson was a potential Republican or independent candidate for governor of Arkansas in the 2014 elections.[1]
Biography
Nelson worked for many years with Arkla, Inc., a natural gas company, starting as a management trainee. Over time he became sales manager, vice president, president, chairman, and CEO.[2]
Nelson ran as a Republican for governor of Arkansas in 1990, losing to Bill Clinton. He ran again in 1994 but lost to Jim Guy Tucker.[3]
In recent years, Nelson has gained attention for his efforts to increase the Arkansas severance tax on natural gas, his former industry. In 2012, he led an effort to but the issue on the statewide ballot, but not enough signatures were collected.[1]
