Sheila McGinnis is a former Municipal Department judge of the Cook County Circuit Court in Illinois. She was elected to the bench in 2002 and retained in 2008 and 2014. McGinnis retired in 2016.[1]

McGinnis was retained to the Cook Judicial Circuit Court with 77.7 percent of the vote on November 4, 2014. [2] 

Evaluations

The Illinois State Bar Association rated Sheila McGinnis as Recommended for retention in 2014.[3]

Education

McGinnis earned a B.A. from Marquette University, going on to receive her J.D. from the John Marshall Law School. She was admitted to the bar in 1989.[4]

Judge McGinnis pleaded guilty to misdemeanor driving under the influence on January 20, 2009. Facing up to a year in prison, she was fined $1,000 and sentenced to 18 months of probation. McGinnis struck another vehicle at a stop light. No injuries were noted, but she refused to take a field sobriety test as well as a breathalyzer.[6][7]
