An effort to recall Jill Sheila Walters from her position as mayor of Trumann, Arkansas, was launched in June 2012.[1] The recall effort did not result in a recall election.
Reasons for recall
Pam Willbanks organized the recall effort. Willbankss' son, Erick Willbanks, was terminated from his position as a detective at the Trumann Police Department following an investigation of former Police Chief Tony Rusher. In response to the recall effort against her, Walters said, "First of all, it's a sad situation that the city was put in. It's sad that these issues came up within the police department...I followed the policies and procedures in terminating Officer Willbanks...I believe people have the right to stand up for what they believe in. I believe in treating people equally and following the law."[1]
Path to the ballot
Recall supporters would have needed to obtain the signatures of 25% of the voters who cast ballots in 2010.[2] A recall election did not take place.
