Shelby County Schools is located in Shelby County, Alabama. The county seat of Shelby County is Columbiana. Shelby County is home to 204,180 residents, according to the United States Census Bureau.[1] In the 2011-2012 school year, Shelby County Schools was the fifth-largest school district in Alabama and served 28,304 students.[2]

Demographics

Shelby County outperformed the rest of Alabama in terms of higher education achievement in 2013. The United States Census Bureau found that 40.5 percent of Shelby County residents aged 25 years and older had attained a bachelor's degree compared to 22.3 percent for Alabama as a whole. The median household income in Shelby County was $69,379 compared to $43,160 for the state of Alabama. The poverty rate in Shelby County was 7.7 percent compared to 18.1 percent for the entire state.[1]
