Shelli Yoder (Democratic Party) is a member of the Indiana State Senate, representing District 40. She assumed office on November 4, 2020. Her current term ends on November 8, 2028.
Yoder (Democratic Party) ran for re-election to the Indiana State Senate to represent District 40. She won in the general election on November 5, 2024.
Biography
Shelli Yoder lives in Bloomington, Indiana.[1] Yoder earned a master's degree in counseling and human services from Indiana University at South Bend and a master's degree in divinity from Vanderbilt University.[2] Her career experience includes working as a senior lecturer with Indiana University Kelley School of Business,[1] executive director of Eating Disorders Coalition of Tennessee, and senior staffer with GirlForce.[2]

2016
Heading into the election, Ballotpedia rated this race as a race to watch. Incumbent Todd Young (R) won election to the U.S. Senate in 2016, leaving his seat open. Trey Hollingsworth (R) defeated Shelli Yoder (D) and Russell Brooksbank (L) in the general election on November 8, 2016. Hollingsworth defeated Robert Hall, Erin Houchin, Brent Waltz, and Greg Zoeller in the Republican primary. On the other side of the aisle, Yoder defeated Bob Kern, James McClure Jr., and Bill Thomas to win the Democratic nomination. The primary elections took place on May 3, 2016.[3][4]

2012
Yoder ran in the 2012 election for the U.S. House to represent Indiana's 9th District. Yoder defeated Jonathan George, John Tilford, John Griffin Miller, and Robert Winningham in the May 8 Democratic primary and was defeated by Republican incumbent Todd Young in the November 6 general election.[5][6]

Yoder was endorsed by Pedro Roman, the President of the Latino Democratic Caucus and a Monroe County Human Rights Commissioner,[7] High School Democrats, Indiana’s official state chapter of the Young Democrats of America-High School Caucus[8], and Mark Kruzan, mayor of Bloomington, Indiana.[9]
On April 19, 2012, Yoder was endorsed by Floyd County Sheriff Darrell Mills.[10]
