In 2015, I was elected to the Redwood City Council and have been an advocate for a path out of poverty, including spearheading raising the minimum wage, increasing affordable housing and access to high-quality affordable childcare.
As your State Senator, I will continue to fight for women's and reproductive rights; be an environmental champion and fight for strict regulations on greenhouse gases, so we leave a world for our children that isn't devastated by climate change; work to ensure everyone has a home and can get around on public transportation; and increase funding so every student and teacher has the resources they need.
I'm proud that the California Teachers Association has joined State Treasurer Fiona Ma, Assemblymember Marc Berman and over 160 local elected leaders in supporting my candidacy.- I want to leave our children a world that's not devastated by climate change and I understand what it takes to protect our environment. I have spearheaded local efforts to combat climate change. As a school board member I increased solar on schools and eliminated plastics, including bottled water. I have also served on the Bay Restoration Advisory Committee. As your State Senator, I will continue to be a champion for the environment by fighting for strict regulations on greenhouse gas emissions, investing in clean and renewable energy, and protecting our open spaces, the Bay and the Coast.
- I am committed to bringing solutions to the affordable housing crisis to our community. As a Redwood City Councilmember, I have helped to create more than 4,000 units of housing in the last eight years, more than any other candidate. In the State Senate, I will continue to fight for more funds for affordable housing and incentivize housing built near transit so that people can live close to where they work, and our children can stay in the Bay Area to raise families of their own.
- Our schools are our hope for the future. As a former local School Board member, and leader of a statewide education non-profit, I have fought for our children to get a top-level education. As your State Senator, I will fight for our kids and teachers in Sacramento to make sure they they have the resources they need to be successful.
I believe that public education is the foundation of our democracy and our economy, and that a quality education offers a path out of poverty, leads to a healthier life, and provides access to more opportunities. As State Senator, I will fight increase funding so California is in the top 10 in the country , ensure access to high quality early childhood education and childcare programs, invest in full-day kindergarten, and address regional cost-of-living variances by establishing regionally cost-adjusted funding for school districts.
Housing
Everyone deserves a home and we need to ensure out communities are livable for all. I am committed to increasing state funding to build more affordable housing and working with cities, counties, and school districts to find creative solutions and partnerships to solve our housing crisis that includes focusing on housing near transit.
Climate and the Environment
Michelle Obama: when they go low, we go high.
Facing your supporters and taking a hard vote teaches you how to stand up for what you think is best even when the decision isn't popular.
