I am the current Vice Mayor of Redwood City and former School Board Member. I have been a leader in women's health and education for over 20 years. I decided to get her Masters in Public Health as the result of organizing to protect women's access to reproductive health services. I've led youth-serving non-profits, and held women's health and education-related leadership roles. Most recently I served for five and a half years as the CEO of Californians Dedicated to Education Foundation, a statewide non-profit working on education policy implementation.

In 2015, I was elected to the Redwood City Council and have been an advocate for a path out of poverty, including spearheading raising the minimum wage, increasing affordable housing and access to high-quality affordable childcare.

As your State Senator, I will continue to fight for women's and reproductive rights; be an environmental champion and fight for strict regulations on greenhouse gases, so we leave a world for our children that isn't devastated by climate change; work to ensure everyone has a home and can get around on public transportation; and increase funding so every student and teacher has the resources they need.

I'm proud that the California Teachers Association has joined State Treasurer Fiona Ma, Assemblymember Marc Berman and over 160 local elected leaders in supporting my candidacy.
  • I want to leave our children a world that's not devastated by climate change and I understand what it takes to protect our environment. I have spearheaded local efforts to combat climate change. As a school board member I increased solar on schools and eliminated plastics, including bottled water. I have also served on the Bay Restoration Advisory Committee. As your State Senator, I will continue to be a champion for the environment by fighting for strict regulations on greenhouse gas emissions, investing in clean and renewable energy, and protecting our open spaces, the Bay and the Coast.
  • I am committed to bringing solutions to the affordable housing crisis to our community. As a Redwood City Councilmember, I have helped to create more than 4,000 units of housing in the last eight years, more than any other candidate. In the State Senate, I will continue to fight for more funds for affordable housing and incentivize housing built near transit so that people can live close to where they work, and our children can stay in the Bay Area to raise families of their own.
  • Our schools are our hope for the future. As a former local School Board member, and leader of a statewide education non-profit, I have fought for our children to get a top-level education. As your State Senator, I will fight for our kids and teachers in Sacramento to make sure they they have the resources they need to be successful.
Education

I believe that public education is the foundation of our democracy and our economy, and that a quality education offers a path out of poverty, leads to a healthier life, and provides access to more opportunities. As State Senator, I will fight increase funding so California is in the top 10 in the country , ensure access to high quality early childhood education and childcare programs, invest in full-day kindergarten, and address regional cost-of-living variances by establishing regionally cost-adjusted funding for school districts.

Housing

Everyone deserves a home and we need to ensure out communities are livable for all. I am committed to increasing state funding to build more affordable housing and working with cities, counties, and school districts to find creative solutions and partnerships to solve our housing crisis that includes focusing on housing near transit.

Climate and the Environment

California must continue to lead the way on combatting climate change. We must invest in both climate mitigation and adaptation. To do that we need to move up our zero emissions goals to 2030, invest in clean energy and transportation, and protect our open spaces, the Bay, and the Coast. Also housing policy is climate policy and we need to build housing near transit.
There are so many organizers and protestors who I admire for their ability to bring people together but also to stand up for what's right in the face of opposition.

Michelle Obama: when they go low, we go high.

The late 60s and early 70s were filled with historical events: Vietnam Protests, Watergate, Roe v. Wade. These events happened when I was 5 to 8 years old.
I babysat all through high school & worked at a summer camp. My senior year I was a server in a country club dining room.
I do. Having served locally for almost 15 years has given me a perspective on the needs and wishes of our community that you can only learn through elected service. Additionally, you learn how to work with constituents to address concerns, how to take input from opposing perspectives and use it to make difficult decisions.

Facing your supporters and taking a hard vote teaches you how to stand up for what you think is best even when the decision isn't popular.
Affordable housing, climate change, and high quality education for all.
I would like to sit on the Education Committee, the Health Committee, & Governance and Finance.
