I am a proud wife, mother, grandmother, previous foster parent, business owner and a woman of faith. I am a fourth-generation Coloradan and a 30+ year resident of Adams County and the daughter of a retired Air Force serviceman (father) and a Department of Defense employee (mother), and I have been blessed with two amazing step parents. I have a servant heart, and I am a defender of justice. My employment history and education include Accounting, Human Resources Management, Transportation, Computer Science, Business Improvement District Management, Construction Contractor, Building Code Compliance, Service Industries, Property Insurance Claims and more. I enjoy caring for others (elderly, children, the homeless), riding my motorcycle, family, friends and pets, and gardening.
  • A safe community is a thriving community. I will prioritize resources for our first responders and community safety programs.
  • Supporting local businesses and creating jobs is one of my top priorities. Let's work together to revitalize our economy.
  • I will lead with integrity, ensuring that every decision is made in the best interest of our residents.
Investing in our youth is investing in our future. I will support educational programs, school choice, and resources for our children.
Some of the unique qualities that the Board Commissioners possess are:

Implementation of policies that affect daily life, such as zoning laws, public health regulations, and community services.
Resource allocation that includes funding for schools, roads, and public services that directly impact quality of life for residents.

The commissioners play a vital role in disaster response and preparedness, coordinating resources and services during emergencies.
I look up to the founding fathers of our country who with great courage and bravery, won the American Revolution and established the United States of America, the greatest country in the history of the world. I hope that I would be brave and courageous in the face of adversity or the enemy. In maintaining freedom, complacency is not an option; neither in mind or in deed.
Basic Economics by Thomas Sowell, The Federalist Papers by Alexander Hamilton, James Madison, and John Jay
Moral integrity and the ability to set aside any personal bias or emotion to act in the best interest of the constituency so that the people do indeed feel accurately and sufficiently represented. An effective and successful elected official understands that the purpose of the position is to be of service; not to acquire or wield power above others for one's self, an agenda, or an affiliation. I believe that the goal of serving a term representing the public should be sacrificial in nature, not simply career developing. Resume enhancement should be a by-product of a term well served.
Empathy, adaptability, integrity, accountability, compassion, and resilience.
Fiscal accountability, resource management, policy implementation, and community representation through engagement.
I hope I will leave a legacy of positive impact on my family, friends, and those I knew, passing down an experience and tradition of values that I care about, including acceptance, hope, fearlessness, resilience, faith, patriotism, tenacity, perseverance, and love for mankind.
Because we were a military family, my parents always watched the evening news and then Nightline with Ted Koppel every weeknight and 60 minutes weekly. I remember hearing and seeing the coverage of the Vietnam War when I was young (7-10 years old), and then 4 years after the war ended, the Iran Hostage Crisis coverage, when I was 15. I had teenage friends who were Iranian and here in Colorado on student visas attending Denver Public Schools.
My first job was working in a home daycare with 35 children at the age of 12. My first official (W-2) job was a janitorial position with Denver Public Schools as an elementary school evening janitor at the age of 14. I worked there for 1 school year before moving from Lowry Air Force Base to Aurora.
I don't know that it is my "favorite" book, but it is an impactful and memorable book - Snow Flower and the Secret Fan by Lisa See. As books often do, the story whisked me away into another time and a far away place to experience a foreign culture with strange and abusive customs and traditions. Through the visual lens the author created, I was able to experience a different way of life and a belief structure that illustrated the societal acceptance of hardship and abuse, interwoven with hope and perseverance.
Helping friends and family deal with addiction and mental illness. Until the last decade, these societal issues have been stigmatized, and so they were "swept under the rug" for fear of association and subsequent shame and embarrassment. There are not enough resources widely available and these issues result in permanent and devastating change to families of our communities.
Some of the lesser-known responsibilities of a commissioner include:

Overseeing the local health department and initiatives, especially during health crises,
Overseeing emergency management plans and responses, coordinating efforts during natural disasters or public emergencies,
Commissioners have the ability to enter into intergovernmental agreements with other government entities for shared services and resources, and

Commissioners have the ability to apply for state and federal grants to fund local projects, enhancing resources available to our communities.
Previous experience in government or politics is beneficial in that it brings an acquired skill set that includes understanding government processes, knowledge of public policy, existing networking relationships, polished public engagement experience, and crisis management skills. These characteristics are important, but are not only attainable in the government employment sector. A diverse career background can also afford one the knowledge, skills, and abilities to navigate the requirements of the position, if one adapts well and learns quickly. While a learning curve may exist (as with any new endeavor), a new perspective can also be beneficial and refreshing.
Skills and expertise that are most helpful for commissioners are:

Problem-solving abilities to analyze issues and develop practical solutions are critical to be able to respond to community needs,
Negotiation and conflict resolution skills are important for addressing disputes and reaching agreements among parties,

Knowledge of budgeting, finance, and resource allocation is essential for managing funds and ensuring financial responsibility.
Some of the unique qualities of the office include:

Collaboration with various local, state, and federal agencies, as well as non-profits and businesses, to address complex issues like economic development and public health,
Long-term strategic planning for future growth and development, ensuring sustainable practices that benefit the community over time, and

Community engagement that fosters public participation with residents, ensuring that community voices are heard.
None come to mind. There are a lot of joke tellers in my family, but I'm not good with punchlines.
I believe financial transparency and government accountability are foundational principles must not be sidestepped or circumvented. Transparency is the public's assurance that the government is doing what it is elected or appointed to do, representing the people. County commissioners are accountable to the public, promoting transparency in government operations and fostering trust within the community.
