Sheri Polster Chappell is a federal judge for the United States District Court for the Middle District of Florida. She joined the court in 2013 after a nomination from President Barack Obama. At the time of nomination, she was a federal magistrate judge for the United States District Court for the Middle District of Florida.[1][2][3]
Early life and education
Judge Chappell received her B.A. degree from the University of Wisconsin at Madison in 1984 and her J.D. degree from Nova Southeastern University in Florida in 1987.[1]
Professional career
Judge Chappell began her career in August of 1987 as an assistant state attorney for the Florida 20th Circuit Court. She was appointed to the Lee County Court in April of 2000, where she served until she became a magistrate judge.[1]

Chappell was nominated on June 25, 2012 by Barack Obama to a seat on the United States District Court for the Middle District of Florida vacated by Gregory Presnell.[2]Obama commented on the nomination, stating "I am honored to put forward these highly qualified candidates for the federal bench. They will be distinguished public servants and valuable additions to the United States District Court."[4]
Chappell was rated Unanimously Qualified by the American Bar Association. Chappell's nomination was returned to the president on January 3, 2013. The nomination was resubmitted on January 4, 2013.[5]
On May 20, 2013, the United States Senate confirmed Sheri Chappell to an Article III post for the United States District Court for the Middle District of Florida with a vote of 90-0.[6][7]
