An effort to recall Hill County Commissioner Sheri Williams is underway in Montana. Recall organizers must collect 2,000 signatures in order to get the recall on the ballot.[1]

In the recall petition, organizers submitted the following reasons for Hill's recall:[1]

We, the undersigned qualified electors of Hill County, State of Montana respectfully petition that an election be held as provided by law on the question of whether Sheri Williams, holding the office of Hill County Commissioner District 2, State of Montana should be recalled for the following reasons:

In the elected capacity given to her by the public, Commissioner Williams has violated her Oath of office, demonstrates gross incompetence as a commissioner and public servant, adversely affects administration of office, rights and public interest, raising serious concerns about credibility, transparency, accountability, potential misconduct formal censure filed 12/26/2024;

engages in harassment, intimidation, bullying, creating a hostile, abusive environment in violation of ethical and professional standards directly to: Rudyard volunteers 12/12/24,12/14/24, executive assistant 2023-5/2025, MCA2023-2-2-103,121,105;

employees complaint filed 12/26/24, constituents complaints filed 12/15/24,12/16/24,1/22/25,1/25/25, 3/13/25, 4/17/25;

to County Attorney 3/27/25, 4/7/25, 4/10/25, 4/15/25;

ignores constituent concerns 10/14/24,1/3/25,12/12/24,12/14/24,12/26/2024,1/6/25, 1/23/25,1/27/25, 2/4/25, 2/19/25, 3/10/25, 3/13/25, 3/17/25, 4/7/2025; MCA2023-2-6-1001,7-5-2101;

failed to provide written reasons for not responding MCA2023-2-6-1009;

Montana allows the following grounds for recall: physical or mental lack of fitness, incompetence, violation of the oath of office, official misconduct, or conviction of a felony offense.[3] To get the recall on the ballot, supporters must collect signatures equal to 15% or 20% of registered voters in the jurisdiction as of the last election for the office, depending on the office type.[4] Recall supporters have three months to circulate petitions.[5]
