My American story began in 1971 when my family and I left New Delhi, India to come to America. Raised with the values of hard work and education, my two sisters and I all became lawyers. I have devoted my legal career to public service, a decision that placed me on the path to becoming a Judge.

In my 28 years of practice, I’ve handled cases at every level of state and federal trial and appellate court, including presenting oral argument at the Texas Supreme Court. My cases ranged from low dollar cases to complex multi-party, multi-million dollar and high-volume discovery litigation, including jury trials, bench trials, and motions practice. I’ve handled a vast array of practice areas, like family law, employment law, constitutional law, personal injury, contract law, & statutory construction. At the County Attorney Office, I rose through the ranks to become the first women and minority to serve as Executive County Attorney over as many as 6 civil divisions. I also have represented the people of Travis County in crucial legal battles to protect the environment, marriage equality, public health and more.

I have been endorsed by the Austin Chronicle, and almost every democratic club endorsing in this race. I have earned the endorsement of the legal community, including endorsements from the Austin Black Lawyers Association, Hispanic Bar Association Austin, and I have unequivocally won the South Asian Bar Association Austin and the Austin Bar Association preference polls.
  • My family and I immigrated to the US because of a promise of a better life for me and my sisters. As an immigrant, the courthouse has always served a symbol of the promise and potential of this country. As a mom of bi-racial kid, I want to hold us to those promises and our potential for equal access for all of us.
  • We know that our courts are the last line of defense of our constitution and the things we hold dear. That is why I'm running. We need judges who have experience handling complex litigation at every level.
  • My comprehensive legal experience enables me to hit the floor running. Much like utility knife, my experience makes me prepared to handle whatever Court the throws at me. I have experience handling high volume dockets and can streamline procedures to ensure that litigants can have timely resolutions.
Streamlining processes and using technology to make the justice system accessible to all participants and making those processes user friendly.
I worked for my Dad's small family business for many years, even as a teenager. He published a local Asian newspaper. In that position, I did whatever was necessary for the business including answering phones, laying out the newspaper, and typesetting. My first official job working as a Resident Assistant at the University of Texas at Austin while I attended college.
Yes, the Austin Bar Association and the South Asian Bar Association of Austin conducted preference polls for this race. I receive 100% of the vote from the South Asian Bar Association of Austin and I received 62% of the vote in the Austin Bar Association preference poll. I have also been endorsed by the Austin Black Lawyers Association and the Hispanic Bar Association.
Almost every democratic club endorsing in this race has endorsed me, Afscme 1624, Central Labor Council; the Hispanic Bar Association, Austin Black Lawyers Association, South Asian Impact. I've also been endorsed by more than 30 former and currect elected or appointed official, and I have won Austin Bar Association and South Asian Bar Association - Austin preference polls. I have also been endorsed by the Austin Chronicle.
