Campaign themes
2014
Palomino's campaign website highlighted the following issues:[1]
Economy/Small Business Development
- Excerpt: "When it comes to being an economic force, the Bronx has great potential. In order for us to be that force, we have to start with raising the minimum wage. We also need to increase investments in small businesses, entrepreneurial training and support, more technical /trade school programs with direct access to employment."
Education
- Excerpt: "I want to increase the educational opportunities for both adults and children in our community. This will open doors on two fronts for many Bronx families. Education policy has to be comprehensive for all parties involved: administrators, teachers, parents, and most importantly, students."
Housing
- Excerpt: "Affordable housing shouldn't mean spending half your disposable income on rent. Affordable shouldn't impact quality of life nor should it comprise living quality. Landlords should be held accountable for repairs to buildings. Tenants should not be afraid to ask for improvement their apartments or buildings. Unfortunately, far too many of us in the Bronx are in one or more of those predicaments."
Seniors
- Excerpt: "Seniors are the backbone of our community, they cannot and will not be the forgotten ones. We have to make sure that we look after our seniors. After spending their whole life working and helping to support others, our seniors should be enjoying life. But instead many of our seniors are struggling to make ends meet. Albany can do better, Albany must do better."
Veterans
- Excerpt: "The Bronx has the highest number of homeless vets in the New York City. They need us. They need our help. When we wake up and enjoy our freedom, there is a serviceman or woman who left their loved ones to go defend the very freedom we often take for granted. Our military families, vets, and enlisted personnel need more from Albany."
