I am a proven leader who works well with others, has a positive attitude, and cares about the community. My professional experience includes 36+ years in the telecommunications industry. I am actively involved in issues impacting my community, sharing information and participating as needed in public hearings, etc. Also involved in the local county and state Democratic party and organized a local non-profit, non-partisan citizen advocacy group. My strengths include being a good listener, being organized and responsive and willing to compromise for the good of Kansans.
  • Committed to listen to constituents and collaborate on solutions that benefit the majority of Kansans.
  • Authentic and caring.
  • A commonsense, middle-of-the-road Democrat.
Top priorities include health care, rural broadband, equal rights and education. These priorities help ensure our children are prepared for the future, everyone is as healthy as possible, our towns are flourishing, there are jobs available and everyone is treated equally and with respect.
I look up to leaders who perform well under stress, are eloquent speakers and have a positive vibe. Also like ones that build others up, are a good role model, know how to surround themselves with a good team and have a high standard for ethics.
I am likable, organized, responsive, motivated and good at relationship building. Have lived in both rural, suburban and urban areas and have a well-rounded background.
To study the issues presented, attend committee/session meetings, gather input from constituents, communicate with constituents, assist constituents with issues that impact them, be an advocate for the district, and vote based on what the majority of constituents support.

I would like my family and friends to remember me as someone who cared enough for the community, state and country to be actively involved in addressing issues and working to make things better.
The Iranian hostage crisis during the Jimmy Carter presidency. I was 17 years old.
My first part-time job was working at a local fabric store in Garnett, KS. The first full-time position was at Fleming Foods Company in Wichita, KS where I worked for approximately 1 year.
I pursue getting a college education through my employer's education benefits while working full-time and being a single mother of two children.
There are pros and cons to a legislator having previous experience. The ones that have previous experience have less of a learning curve and better understanding of the issues. However, ones that do not have experience are more likely to represent the people and are more likely to have an open mind and willingness to learn.
Managing its budget, economic recovery and funding new initiatives. It is important to get creative with reallocating spending to address needs. Citizens do not want tax increases so we need to work with what we have. For example, is there a way to shift spending on corrections to health care or some other need?
Absolutely. Collaboration is a requirement to getting things done. It is easier to collaborate with someone you know and have a relationship with.
