Middle of 5 children Raised on a farm in eastern Nebraska Attended public school K-8; parochial school 9-12 Graduated from Kearney State College with a bachelor's degree in Special Education K-12 Graduated from University of Nebraska - Kearney with a master's degree in School Counseling K-12 Married to Steve Jones Have 4 adult children and 6 grandchildren I am a retired educator having taught in the Grand Island Public Schools for 35 years in grades K-9 in the areas of special education, language arts, and elementary school counseling. I was a charter member of the non-union Association of American Educators. I am conservative, a patriot, and a respecter of our constitution. I am pro-life believing life begins at conception. I am a follower of Jesus Christ.

  • Position Statement: I believe we need education that is protective of children's hearts, minds and bodies, inline with the will of parents, and mindful of the resources provided by taxpayers.
  • I support local decision-making believing local school districts, which includes parents and patrons, know best their communities and their children.
  • I believe parents need to be watchful of the educational materials being used with their children.
I believe one of the most pressing educational issues in the state of Nebraska is the teacher and other school staff shortage. We need to find ways to recruit quality individuals to the teaching profession, and once hired, retain them.

I believe we need to improve the academic achievement of our children.

I oppose the teaching of Comprehensive Sex Education in our schools. I believe it sexualizes our children, confuses them, may lead them to make decisions they come to regret, and undermines parental decision-making.
I look up to my parents. My mother was one of the hardest-working people I know. She gardened, canned, raised and butchered chickens, sewed clothing for her five children, prepared delicious meals for her family, and kept a tidy house. My dad was, and still is, a kind-hearted, generous man who provided well for his family. He volunteered in our community in many ways, serving on numerous boards. Both of my parents were good role models.
I detasseled corn during the summer beginning at the age of 12 until I turned 16. At the age of 16, I began working as a nurse's aide in retirement homes and continued doing so throughout college. Upon graduating from college I began my work as an educator for the next 35 years until retiring in 2018.
