Sherry Radack (Republican Party) was a judge for Chief Justice of the Texas First District Court of Appeals. She assumed office in 2004. She left office on December 31, 2022.

Biography

Education

Radack earned a bachelor's degree from Rice University and a law degree from the University of Houston Law Center. Prior to law school, she taught middle-school French and Spanish classes in the Houston area. She and her husband also owned retail stores in Texas and Oklahoma in the 1970s.[1][2]

Career

After law school, Radack went into private practice with the firm Bracewell and Patterson, where she worked on civil trial work (specifically contracts, products liability, and claims of insurance fraud). In 1998, Radack was elected Harris County Civil District Judge, a seat that she held for three years. She was appointed to the Texas First District Court of Appeals in 2001. She was then elected chief justice in 2004.

Awards and associations

Chief Justice Radack has served as a member of the Texas Judicial Council, the Task Force on Indigent Defense, the Appellate Section of the State Bar of Texas, the Texas Council of Intermediate Appellate Court Chiefs, and the National Center for State Courts Council of Intermediate Appellate Court Chiefs. She was a member of the Board of Directors for the Texas Center for the Judiciary.[2] Radack has also served on the boards of the University of St. Thomas, the American Diabetes Association, Memorial Health Care Systems Foundation, the Westland YMCA, and Project Safe Child.[2]

Radack ran unopposed in the Republican primary.[3] Jim Peacock (D) filed to run against Radack in the general election.

Radack defeated Democrat Morris Overstreet in the general election, winning 59.8% of the vote.[4]
