Sherrylyn Young, Biography

I am a retired Ob-Gyn physician who has lived in our Legislative District 17 for 40 years. I am also a wife and mother and raised my children in our district.

Education: BA from UCLA, Teaching Credential from Cal State Hayward, MD from UCSF Career: Ob-Gyn in Private Practice (I ran my own Small Business) Experience: Past: - Southern District Director for Arizona Medical Association - Member Governor’s Commission on Maternal and Child Health Care - President, Tucson Society of Women Physicians - Member, Citizen’s Flood Advisory Commission - Board Member, Tanque Verde Valley Association - President, Tanque Verde School Board Present: - Member Pima GOP Election Integrity Task Force - President, Pima County Republican Women’s Club

Because my husband and I are both retired, and our children are grown, I have the time to devote to the job of Arizona State Representative. I have experience in education, health care, and business, and can bring that expertise to my job as Representative.
  • ELECTION INTEGRITY. Both political parties have, at one time or another, felt that an election was untrustworthy. I hope to pass legislation that will make voting accessible and convenient, while providing for reliable voter rolls, voter ID, and secure chain of custody for ballots. Voters need to feel confident in their elections.
  • BETTER EDUCATION. I am a great fan of public schools, but our children are failing under the present system. Our schools must focus more on core curriculum, critical thinking, and job skill, not racial divisiveness and social issues. For parents who are not satisfied with the public schools, education funds should follow the student (as recently legislated) allowing them to attend the school of their choice.
  • MEDICAL FREEDOM. The recent Covid pandemic has taught us how easily our freedom to make our own medical decision can be taken from us. We must require more legislative and judicial oversight of executive orders, and oppose orders mandating our personal medical decisions.
The Arizona constitution states that the purpose of government is "to protect and maintain individual rights." Citizens need to be protected from government becoming bloated, expensive, and tyrannical. I will strive to promote limited government and personal freedom.
