I have spent my 26 year legal career working as a public defender trying to ensure that everyone-no matter who they are, where they come from, what they look like, or how much money they have-has equal access to justice. Now I am running for judge to bring my commitment to equal justice for all to the bench.
  • Social justice is completely compatible with criminal justice.
  • Restorative justice and rehabilitation of offenders benefits the entire community.
  • Equal access to justice is critical for our system to actually be just.
I am passionate about any policy that guarantees equal treatment and equal access to justice.
I look up to my mother because she taught me to persevere despite tragedy and set back.
Even temperament, honesty, humility, and a commitment to service.
Compassion. Empathy. Strong litigator and legal researcher/writer. Humility. Commitment to service.
To be objective, fair, well prepared and knowledgeable about relevant issues, and accountable to the community.
To have done the most good for the most people and have people feel they were always treated with respect and fairness.
My first job was as a crew member for a McDonald's in my home town. I held that job until I went away to college.
"Man's Search for Meaning" by Viktor Frankl because it reminds me to practice gratitude in all situations and that happiness is a state of mind and should not be dependent upon what is happening around you.
Dealing with the death of my father as a result of addiction and suicide.
I believe a judge should be accountable to and involved in the community who elects her. People coming before the court should be treated with dignity and respect and a judge should always remember that she is elected to serve the people and that service should not end at the courtroom door. Judges should be out in the community helping and educating people as often as possible.
Judge Jennifer Brunner who is currently running for the Ohio Supreme Court.
I am awaiting my rating from my local bar association.
There are no former public defenders on the bench where I am seeking my seat. The judges currently on the bench come from more traditional backgrounds: private practice or the prosecutor's office. I consider that a significant void that needs to be filled. The bench needs a diversity of perspective and the perspective of a life-long public defender is a perspective that is essential to the fair and equal treatment of all the members of our community.
I am concerned about issues of systemic racism, implicit bias, and lack of sentencing reform.
To take advantage of current treatment and rehabilitative resources to help people get better and become productive members of the community.
Perhaps, one day a position on the Court of Appeal might be something I would consider.
It can be accurate if the people doing the rating have personal knowledge of the candidate's abilities.
