Campaign themes

2016

The following issues were listed on Ostrov's campaign website. For a full list of campaign themes, click here

  • National Security: National Security is my first priority. I believe that Hawai’i is in the perfect location to forge ahead with the nation's Pivot to the Pacific, a strategic military plan to secure our nation by strengthening and balancing our armed forces in the Pacific. We must make Hawai’i a priority in Congress and advocate for the best military resources our nation can muster to bolster our position here in the Pacific.
  • Economy: I believe our government can do much more to support small businesses, especially local ones, by reducing regulations and cutting taxes in order to create a business environment friendly to innovation and risk-taking. We know that when small businesses thrive, our economy thrives, both here in Hawai’i and across the nation.
  • Infrastructure: Our nation’s infrastructure has been neglected for decades. Hawai’i’s problems extend way beyond inadequate roads and bridges, affecting our livelihoods and productivity, costing us precious time and hard-earned money. Our inability to secure and manage federal funds to upkeep our highways and bridges is wreaking havoc on our daily lives...I will advocate for whatever will benefit our residents and our economy.
  • Education: I believe the less the federal government has to say about how our children are educated, the more control our local parents, teachers and concerned neighbors will have to help our keiki.
  • Environment and Energy: I will fight for Hawaiʻi to be a leader in alternative energy while continuing to incentivize conservation so we can be energy independent and self-sufficient to the greatest extent possible. Let us showcase how Hawaiʻi is most importantly an outstanding place to live!
