Hanley ran in the 2012 election for Maine House of Representatives District 59. Hanley was chosen to run in place of the deceased primary winner Daniel Bates.[1] Hanley was defeated by Gay Grant (D) in the general election, which took place on November 6, 2012.[2][3]
