Sid Mahant is a small business owner running for State Representative in District 40. He immigrated to the United States at a young age and began his career working as a janitor before building a successful transportation business in Indiana. He and his family live in Avon, where they have raised their children and supported local charities and community efforts.

Mahant comes from a diverse, working-class background — not a political one. He understands firsthand the pressures families face, including rising property taxes, higher living costs, traffic congestion, and the challenges facing small businesses. Before achieving success, he worked many jobs and faced setbacks, including selling cars, working as a nurse’s assistant, cashiering at a convenience store, becoming a realtor, owning restaurants, working as a mechanic, and driving trucks. He says those experiences taught him resilience, financial discipline, and an understanding of the changing needs of District 40.

Mahant says he is running to bring practical, common-sense leadership to the Statehouse and to represent everyday working families in District 40.
  • Cost of Living & Property Tax Stability District 40 families are facing rising property taxes and higher everyday expenses. A priority is promoting fair, transparent assessment practices and responsible local spending so tax bills remain predictable. This includes exploring targeted relief for seniors and long-term homeowners while maintaining funding for essential services. Supporting small businesses and job growth is also critical to strengthening the local economy and helping families keep up with the cost of living.
  • Strong, Safe, and Well-Funded Schools As the district grows, schools must have sustainable funding to maintain quality education and safe learning environments. Priorities include competitive teacher pay, updated classroom resources, workforce and career pathways, and strong safety coordination with first responders. Responsible budgeting and accountability are essential to ensure taxpayer dollars directly support student success and prepare the next generation for economic opportunity.
  • Public Safety & Infrastructure Population growth requires thoughtful planning for roads, traffic flow, and emergency services. A focus is ensuring police, firefighters, and EMS personnel have proper training, equipment, and reliable funding. Infrastructure planning should reduce congestion, improve safety, and keep pace with development. Long-term coordination between state and local leaders can help manage growth responsibly while protecting quality of life in District 40.
I am passionate about public policies that directly impact working families and small business owners. Having worked many jobs and built a business from the ground up, I care deeply about economic opportunity, fair and predictable property taxes, and keeping the cost of living manageable. I am also committed to strong public schools, workforce development, and safe communities. As our district grows, responsible infrastructure planning and support for first responders are essential to maintaining quality of life and long-term stability.
