Sidney Stein
Sidney Stein is a federal judge on senior status for the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York. He joined the court in 1995 after being nominated by President Bill Clinton. Stein assumed senior status on September 1, 2010.[1]
Education
Born in Passaic, New Jersey, Stein graduated from Princeton University with his bachelor's degree in 1967 and obtained his J.D. from Yale Law School in 1972. Stein also attended New York University.[1]
Military career
Stein served in the New York Army National Guard from 1969 to 1975.[1]
Professional career
- 1974-1955: Attorney in private practice, New York City
- 1972-1973: Law clerk, Honorable Stanley Fuld, New York Court of Appeals[1]
Judicial career
Southern district of New York
On the recommendation of U.S. Senator Daniel Patrick Moynihan, Stein was nominated to the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York by President Bill Clinton on January 11, 1995, to a seat vacated by Pierre Leval, as Leval was appointed to the Second Circuit Court of Appeals. Stein was confirmed by the U.S. Senate on March 17, 1995, on a majority voice vote and received commission on March 17, 1995.[2] Stein was succeeded in this position by Alison J. Nathan.
