My name is Sierra Garcia and I was born and and raised in this valley. I have been active in politics for 15 years. My contributions include writing and editing an inclusivity proclamation for the city of Grand Junction, hygiene product drives for people without access, community cleanups, and various activist events. I've been a member of the Green Party for 4 years and I am currently the elected Secretary for the Colorado Green Party. My plans include education reform, energy reform, Medicare for all, anti-racist policies and equal access to resources.
I am passionate about equality for all, strengthening the community, bringing people together, and helping people in the community feel like they belong here.
The most important characteristics for an elected official include honesty, accountability, and the opportunity for personal growth.
I get things done. I see problems and ways to solve them. I have a different perspective than members of either bipartisan party.
The core responsibilities for someone elected to any office is to listen to their constituents and follow the needs and voices of your people.
The first historical event I remember was the attack on 9/11. I was nine years old.
I worked for my mother at her catering company from the age of 12 to 17.
This states greatest challenges are going to stem in our rural areas. Our rural areas are under siege from militias and white supremacists groups. The issue is stemming from rapid growth and no accountability for racist, xenophobic, bigoted actions.
I believe it is important that you develop relationships with other legislators in order to ensure successful conversations and graceful passage of meaningful legislation.
I am very interested in running for higher offices in the future. I have always wanted to achieve the highest office possible.
