Signature requirements and deadlines for 2017 state government elections

The signature filing deadline is the date by which candidates must file nominating signatures with election officials in order to have their name placed on the ballot.   • April 3: Filing deadline for nomination petitions for primary election
  • June 6: Filing deadline for nomination petitions for independent candidates for general election[6]

For the Ohio Legislature to consider an indirect statute, 91,677 signatures are needed, which equals three percent of the total number of ballots cast in the 2014 gubernatorial election.
