My name is Siobhan McIntyre, and I’m running to represent District 79 in the Kansas State House. I’ve spent my life dedicated to public service, starting out as a volunteer EMT to a 911 dispatcher in Boston, where I was honored with commendations for my work during high-pressure situations. That experience taught me the importance of staying calm under pressure and finding solutions, no matter how tough the challenge.

After moving to Kansas to be closer to family, I fell in love with this community. I’ve seen firsthand the incredible resilience, hard work, and neighborly spirit that define the people here. As a 4-H leader in the dog project, I’ve stayed involved with our youth and continue to be passionate about building stronger communities.

Running for office is a natural extension of my commitment to helping others. I care deeply about ensuring that everyone in our district, from farmers and small business owners to families and seniors, has a voice in Topeka. I’m not a career politician—I’m someone who believes in listening, rolling up my sleeves, and working hard to get things done for the people I care about.

Outside of politics, I love spending time outdoors hiking with my dog and enjoying the beauty of Kansas. I believe in putting the community first and I’m ready to work tirelessly to ensure District 79 thrives.
  • Community First: I am deeply committed to strengthening our local communities by listening to your concerns, supporting local businesses, and improving public services. I believe in putting people over politics to build a stronger, more connected District 79.
  • Advocate for Rural Kansas: I am committed to addressing the unique challenges rural communities face, from access to healthcare to education and infrastructure. I will be a tireless advocate for the needs of our district and ensure that rural Kansas is heard at the state level.
  • Common-Sense Solutions: I will work on practical, bipartisan solutions that make a real difference in our daily lives—whether it's lowering property taxes, improving access to affordable healthcare, or investing in our schools. My focus is on results, not political games.
Healthcare: Ensuring that all Kansans, especially those in rural areas, have access to quality, affordable healthcare is a top priority for me. I will advocate for expanding healthcare services in underserved areas, supporting mental health initiatives, and addressing the rising cost of care.

Education and Youth Development: As a 4-H leader and someone who deeply values education, I am passionate about ensuring our schools are well-funded and that our teachers are supported. Every child in Kansas deserves a great education, regardless of where they live, and I want to ensure that our youth have opportunities for growth both inside and outside the classroom.
The first historical event I remember vividly was 9/11. I was 18 at the time, in my first year of college in Westchester County, just outside New York City. Many of my classmates had family in the city, including my own dad, and I remember the intense anxiety we all felt as communication shut down—no internet, no phones. In those first days, we were left wondering if our loved ones were safe.

In the aftermath, my college quickly mobilized to help. We came together to bring essentials to citizens and first responders in the city. It was a powerful moment of solidarity, and it left a lasting impression on me about the importance of community in times of crisis.

I believe that a state ballot initiative process would be good for Kansas. This process empowers voters by giving them a direct say in important issues that affect their lives. It allows citizens to bring forward policies that might not be addressed by the legislature, ensuring that grassroots concerns are heard.

A ballot initiative process would make our democracy more responsive and inclusive, as it puts more decision-making power in the hands of the people. While it’s important to ensure that initiatives are clear, fair, and well-vetted, this process provides an additional tool for Kansans to shape their future and hold elected officials accountable.

Ultimately, I believe that Kansans know what’s best for their communities, and a ballot initiative process can give them the opportunity to take more direct action on the issues they care about.
