A Skagit County Sales Tax, Proposition 1 ballot question was approved on the August 6, 2013, election ballot in Skagit County, which is in Washington.
This measure authorized the County of Skagit to impose an additional sales and use tax of 0.3% in order to fund the construction, maintenance and operation of jail facilities, police service and fire protection service.[1]

Question on the ballot:
| “ | The Skagit County Board of County Commissioners has adopted Resolution No. R201301 02 concerning a sales and use tax pursuant to RCW 82.14.450. If approved, this proposition would authorize an additional sales and use tax at a rate of .3 percent to be used for the construction, maintenance and operation of jail facilities and police and fire protection. | ” |
Explanatory statement
Below is the explanatory statement found on the County Voter's Guide:
| “ | If approved, this Proposition would authorize an additional sales tax of .3% within Skagit County. For example, there would be an additional three cents ($0.03) of sales tax on a ten dollar ($10.00) purchase. The revenues generated from this additional sales tax would be used for the construction, maintenance and operation of a new County Jail facility to house City, Town and County inmates. Additionally, a portion of the revenue may be used to support local police and fire services. The increased sales tax will not apply to retail sales of motor vehicles and certain leases of motor vehicles.[1][2] | ” |
