Campaign themes

2015

Sheikh stated the following regarding her campaign themes on her website:

Proven Track Record

As a potential school board member Sofia demonstrates a long and accomplished commitment to LCISD. Her track record speaks for itself and includes:

  • Serving LCISD schools for over 10 years where no role has too big or too small. She has been a room mom as well as PTO President and just about everything in between.
  • Leading the campaign successfully to raise over $40,000 for the Reading Junior High Marquee. Through this project and many others in the schools and her work in the community, she has learned to develop budgets and hold others accountable for staying focused and avoid overspending.
  • Contributing and driving others to contribute to LCISD (businesses, families and individuals) through various fundraising opportunities and plans to continue her commitment for many years to come.
  • Child development is very important to Sofia and has proven this by being a Girl Scout Troop Leader and Girl Scout Area Manager since 2009. Her children are all actively involved in both Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts.

Key Focuses
Sofia has held community meet & greets with community members and through those meetings learned what issues are important to her constituents. Should she be elected she pledges to focus on the following topics from the start:

  • Cut back on assessments and help make those that are given more meaningful and less high-stakes for students and schools.
  • A positive working environment and better incentives for our teachers/staff member
  • Transportation safety and recruiting
  • Garnering more resources for special needs education and 504 plan
  • Recognize and work with residents to understand not only the needs and wishes of those in District 4 but also keeps the big picture in mind to help understand what best serves the diverse population of all LCISD.[2]
