Vision
Improving Public Safety and Wildfire Preparedness
- Ensure adequate staffing for police, fire and emergency response–especially for evacuations and disaster operations.
- Continue making streets cleaner, better lit, and evacuation-ready by properly trimming trees and vegetation.
- Support rebuilding fire stations where needed—particularly those that are not currently safe and lack secure foundations–including Fire Station 63—so firefighters have safe, well-equipped facilities and sufficient equipment.
- Support repairing the Fire Department’s boat and dock, and ensure firefighters have the HazMat training and equipment needed to respond safely and effectively.
- Support City assistance for low-income residents to help with Zone 0 compliance and home hardening.
- Work to establish a shaded fuel break along the residential boundary of the entire El Sobrante Valley in Wildcat Canyon.
- Enhance availability and the level of services by Community Resilience Centers in District 4.
Strengthening the City Services that Improve Our Quality of Life
- Improve routine maintenance and safety: lighting, tree trimming, cleanliness, and timely service response.
- Deliver improvements to parks and family amenities, including the need for real restrooms, toddler fencing, sports and fitness equipment and community-park upgrades at LaMoine Park (also known as Cheese Park).
- Initiate a community input survey and move forward with improvements for Hilltop Park.
- Bring the West Contra Costa Unified School District and the City of Richmond together to make improvements at Fairmead Park.
- Make city government more transparent and easier for everyday residents to navigate.
Promoting Diversity, Equity, and Economic Development that Benefits Everyone
- Continue pressing for the long-delayed Hilltop Mall redevelopment to move forward, by urging the property owner and the City to reconcile outstanding issues and break ground—delivering new housing and businesses, expanding the City’s tax base, and increasing housing availability for residents.
- Make it easier to open and operate a business while keeping standards fair and feasible and enforcement consistent.
- Expand equitable access to City grants and youth opportunities to support underserved neighborhoods in building community and generational wealth.
- Keep housing policies focused on stability, access, and pathways to homeownership.
Strengthening Collaboration Between Our City and County
- Institutionalize City and County coordination on the General Plan–particularly around public safety, evacuation routes, public alerts, vegetation management, and disaster preparedness in the Valley.
- Align the City’s planning documents with clear implementation responsibilities so residents don’t fall through gaps.
- Pursue shared City-County funding strategies when services cross jurisdictional boundaries, in order to streamline and improve service delivery.
- Work with the City and County to plan dog parks that serve both City and unincorporated County residents.
