Sol Sandoval Tafoya (she, her, hers) is a Chicana indigenous woman and a seasoned community leader who has been fighting for working people for over 20 years. Now, she wants to take the fight straight to the nation’s capital.

The First Generation daughter of immigrants, she grew up watching her undocumented mother and father work endless hours and hold multiple jobs to make ends meet. She carries her parents with her, a reminder to never forget where she came from.

Her 10-year career as a social worker only showed her what she already lived–the impacts of poverty in her community. After seeing her neighbors failed by our institutions, Sol left her role at the Dept. of Social Services, and committed to building community power full-time.

While in her position with Together Colorado, a coalition of faith-based organizations, Sol trained and organized people to advocate for collective bargaining rights for state employees, eliminating the state preemption on increasing the minimum wage, and creating a Paid Family and Medical Leave insurance program. She is currently advocating for health equity with the Colorado Trust.

Sol lives in Pueblo with her two children and her dog Esteban.
  • I am a working-class, born and bred union woman who will never forget where I come from or the people who put me into office.
  • I am a mother of two children, and I will not stop fighting until the world is a better place for them.
  • It's important that people who look like me see themselves reflected in their elected representatives. My heritage and identity are what made me into the person I am today.
Public education is one of the most important issues to me. A good education opens up so many doors for a young person, and we need to make sure all students, no matter what their background, have access to the best education possible.

Healthcare is also incredibly important to me, personally. There have been times I've felt like a bad mother because I wasn't able to afford the best health care for my children, and I know there are so many parents out there who feel the same way I did. People should not be going into bankruptcy because they got sick, we need universal public healthcare now.

Additionally, addressing the climate crisis is critical if we want to leave a habitable world for our children. Ensuring we're protecting public lands, holding polluters accountable, and investing in a just transition to clean renewable energy are essential if we hope to stop climate change before it's too late.
