Sonja McCullen
Sonja McCullen is a judge of the Hawaii Intermediate Court of Appeals. She assumed office on October 1, 2021. Her current term ends on September 30, 2031.
McCullen was first appointed to the court on August 6, 2021, by Gov. David Ige (D).[1] The Hawaii State Senate confirmed the appointment on August 27, 2021.[2]
Biography
Before joining the intermediate court of appeals, McCullen served as the deputy prosecuting attorney for the City and County of Honolulu. Her professional experience also includes working as a staff attorney for United Public Workers, a judicial education specialist for the State of Hawaii Judiciary, and a law clerk for Hawaii State Supreme Court Justice Paula A. Nakayama. McCullen was also a teacher at Waiʻanae High School, teaching social studies, Hawaiian studies, and Hawaiian Language. McCullen received a B.A. in liberal and Hawaiian studies from the University of Hawaii at Mānoa. She received her J.D. from the William S. Richardson School of Law.[1]
