A recall election against Sonya Hutchison, member of the Buffalo School District RE-4 board of directors in Colorado, was held on November 8, 2022. A majority of voters cast ballots in favor of the recall, removing her from office. Mike Kirschbaum, the only candidate to file as a successor candidate, won the race to replace Hutchinson.[1][2][3]
The recall effort began in July 2022. Recall supporters expressed frustration with Hutchison's actions during the board's search for a new superintendent. They said she went rogue during the interview process, which resulted in one candidate withdrawing from the list of applicants.[4] Hutchison did not comment on the recall effort.[5]

Recall supporters
Melinda Hutt was listed as the proponent of the recall effort.[5] At a school board meeting, Hutt said, "If a staff member did this they would be fired, a student would be punished and myself would not be allowed to volunteer at the school again. We do what is best for the school, not put our agenda or beliefs first. Mrs. Hutchison does not represent our community and what we stand for, so I am asking for her to step down as a board member."[4]
Recall opponents
Hutchison did not respond to a request from the Journal-Advocate to comment on the recall effort.[5]
