I’m Soren Stevenson. My background as a union member, renter, homeless outreach worker, and survivor of police violence has given me the knowledge and experience to lead.

When Minneapolis rose up for George Floyd, I stood with you, taking a rubber bullet and losing an eye. I’ll fight just as hard to keep ICE out, resist Trump, and protect every one of our neighbors.

Housing, public safety, and climate action are my priorities, and my relationships with elected leaders at all levels of government will ensure that Ward 8 neighbors get what they need to thrive.
  • No one in Minneapolis is untouched by the housing crisis. To make sure neighbors can stay in their homes, I support:

--Removing barriers to home ownership --More protections for renters & rent stabilization --An income tax on the wealthy to offset property taxes

--An effective and compassionate response to homelessness
  • With Trump rolling back environmental progress, Minneapolis needs to work harder than ever. I support: --Transitioning buildings, transportation, and energy to zero-carbon sources --Shutting down polluting infrastructure --Expanding transit & safe, accessible streets
  • Whether it’s walking your dog at night or talking to the police–everyone should feel safe. I won’t compromise on either. We need: --Police, mental health specialists, civilian investigators, and other staff so that police officers can focus on violent crime --Greater accountability for police misconduct --To implement the consent decrees
For the last decade, Minneapolis has faced a crisis of homelessness and encampments. As a homeless outreach worker, I saw the inner workings of this crisis every day. This is not inevitable, and it's unacceptable. As a city, it violates our conscience and affects our quality of life to have people sleeping outside. I’m committed to bringing my firsthand experience with homeless people and the crisis on our streets to discussions and policy at City Hall.
An elected official needs to have open lines of communication with constituents and have the backing of a broad coalition of groups, unions, and organizations that are fighting to make our city more affordable, sustainable, and vibrant.
In 2020 while I was peacefully protesting the murder of George Floyd an MPD officer shot me in the face with a rubber bullet. I lost my eye and sense of smell. Complications are on-going, as I had to undergo a facial reconstruction surgery this summer to help me breathe better. On how this incident has affected my physically, there is the mental and emotional trauma that I carry with me. This year was the 5th anniversary of George Floyd's murder and we've seen very little in the way of improvements in accountability for police misconduct. This is one of the reasons I am running for City Council.
