July 16, 2009

The fourth and final day of the confirmation hearing was testimony by outside witnesses. The outside witness testimony was conducted in panels on various legal subjects.

Firefighter Frank Ricci of the New Haven, Connecticut Fire Department gave his testimony on the impact of Judge Sotomayor's ruling in Ricci v. DeStefano. Mr. Ricci was a witness for the minority members on the Senate Judiciary Committee.

Lieutenant Ben Vargas of the New Haven, Connecticut Fire Department gave his testimony on the impact of Judge Sotomayor's ruling in Ricci v. DeStefano. Lieutenant Vargas was a witness for the minority members on the Senate Judiciary Committee.

July 15, 2009

The third day of the hearings finished up the rest of the first round questions and started the second round of questions from all the committee members. During the second round of questioning, each committee member was given up to twenty minutes. Senators did not had to use all of the allotted twenty minutes.

July 14, 2009

The second day was the first round of questions by committee members to Judge Sotomayor. All committee members were granted 30 minutes for first round questions.

A heckler disrupted the confirmation hearing during the portion where Senators made their opening statements. This was the first of two occurrences that the hearing was interrupted by hecklers on July 13th. The heckler was removed and arrested by US Capitol Police.
