South Carolina Amendment 3A (1998)
South Carolina Amendment 3A allows private funds donated to state supported colleges and universities which are held by the State Treasurer to be invested in stocks of U.S. corporations registered on any national securities exchange. It was on the November 3, 1998 election ballot in South Carolina where it passed, with 71.7% of voters in favor.

This amendment would allow private funds donated to state supported colleges and universities which are held by the State Treasurer to be invested in stocks of United States corporations registered on any national securities exchange. Those investments will be made by the State Treasurer according to a plan recommended by the State Retirement Systems Investment Panel and approved by the college and university governing boards.
