The South Dakota Auditor General is a legislative position in the South Dakota state government.

The Department of Legislative Audit was first created in July 1943 and was known then as the Department of Audits and Accounts. The department name was changed in 1974 to Department of Legislative Audit.[1]

The Auditor General is appointed for an eight year term and there is no limitation to the number of terms he/she can serve.[1]

Current officeholder

The current auditor general is Rich Sattgast.[2]
