South Dakota: Christopher Fisher was not let off easy by the South Dakota Supreme Court in late November. He was convicted last year of the murder of his girlfriend's 16-month-old child. The incident occurred on Thanksgiving Day in 2009. Fisher shook the child to death when the boy would not stop crying. In the Supreme Court case, Fisher's lawyers argued that the police had forced him to confess and that the conviction should therefore be overturned. The Supreme Court, however, upheld the jury's decision and the 60-year prison sentence that accompanied it.[1]
