Two state executive positions were up for election in 2012 in the state of South Dakota.
- South Dakota Public Utilities Commission (2 officers)
While South Dakota held primaries for other offices on June 5, 2012, candidates for Public Utilities Commissioner were nominated at the Republican and Democratic state conventions in June. The general election was held on November 6, 2012.
Both of the incumbents who sought election in 2012 to the Public Utilities Commission were successful. Incumbent Chris Nelson (R) defeated Nick Nemec (D) in the general election. Incumbent Kristie Fiegen (R) defeated Matt McGovern (D) and Russel Clarke (L) in the general election.[1]
Chris Nelson's seat
Incumbent Chris Nelson (R) won the general election on November 6, 2012.[1] He announced on February 17 that he would seek election to his appointed position on the South Dakota Public Utilities Commission in 2012.[2]
