Employees of Southfield schools launched a recall campaign against its school board members, but did not submit the necessary signatures to place the recall on the ballot.[1]

The union began the recall effort after the school board voted to contract out its food, custodial and transportation services, which the board hopes will save the district $21.5 million over three years.[1]

The Southfield Education Association, Southfield Michigan Educational Personnel Association and the Educational Secretaries of Southfield and the Michigan Education Association have been working throughout the year on contract negotiations, as employee contracts expired in mid 2008.[2]

The effort against the recall was led by Lathrup Village resident Thom Bainbridge[1]
