Two of the seven seats on the Southwest Independent School District board of trustees were up for at-large general election on May 7, 2016. Incumbents Ida Sudolcan and Sylvester Vasquez Jr. defeated challengers Phillip Vargas and Chris Villarreal to win additional terms on the board.[1][2]

Voter and candidate information
The Southwest ISD Board of Trustees is composed of seven members who are elected at large to three-year terms. All voters in the school district are eligible to vote for every seat up for election. Two seats were scheduled for general election on May 7, 2016. There was no primary election.[1]
Candidates running for the school board had to be a United States citizen, a resident of Texas for at least 12 months, and a resident of the district for at least six months. Candidates also had to be 18 years of age or older and registered to vote.[1]
