Five seats on the Spartanburg County School District 6 School Board were up for election on November 5, 2013.
Mike Crook, Dale Evans, Michael Forrester, Kevin Harrison, and Mary Lou Hightower ran unopposed for the five at-large seats.
About the district
Spartanburg County School District 6 is located in Spartanburg County, which is in Northwestern South Carolina. The county was home to 288,745 residents in 2010, according to the United States Census Bureau.[1]
Demographics
Spartanburg County underperformed in terms of median household income and higher education attainment, compared to South Carolina as a whole. According to the 2010 Census, the median household income in Spartanburg County was $43,563, compared to a statewide median income of $44,587. The percentage of county residents aged 25 years or older that had attained a bachelor's degree or higher was 20.4 percent, compared to 24.2 percent for the entire state. County residents lived below the poverty level at a rate of 16.2 percent, while the state rate was 17.0 percent.[1]

Method of board member selection
The Spartanburg County School District 6 School Board consists of nine members elected to four-year terms. The members of the board are elected at large by voters in the district. The general election was held on November 5, 2013. Five seats were up for election on November 5, 2013, and the remaining four seats were up for election on November 3, 2015.
