Special election on February 26 will fill vacancy in Alabama state house

BIRMINGHAM, Alabama: A special election is scheduled for February 26 to fill a vacancy in District 97 of the Alabama House of Representatives.

Yvonne Kennedy (D) died on December 8, 2012. Gov. Robert Bentley (R) scheduled a special election to fill the vacancy, with a primary on February 26, 2013. However, no Republican candidates filed for the seat, which in turn has turned the primary into the general election.

Here are the seven Democratic candidates vying for the seat:

• William Carroll
• Karlos Finley
• Jeffery Ray Jones
• Levi Wright, Jr.
• Kimberly Williams Pettway
• Ronnie L. Williams
• Adline C. Clarke

In 2010, Kennedy won election without any opposition in the general election.
