Two seats on the St. Landry School Board were up for special election on October 19, 2013. District 3's seat was open due to the incumbent, John Miller (D), pleading guilty to bribery charges on July 1, 2013. Faltery Jolivette (I) was appointed to temporarily fill the seat until the special election could be held. District 6's seat was open due to the death of incumbent Ronald Carriere (R) in March 2013. Donnie Perron (D) was appointed to fill the seat until the special election.[1]
District 10 incumbent Quincy Richard (D) was later convicted over the same bribery charges as Miller. A special election to fill his seat was held May 3, 2014.
Jolivette ran to complete the remainder of Miller's term, but was defeated by Milton "Coach" Ambres (D). Perron defeated Bambi Polotzola (D) and retained the seat for the remainder of Carriere's unexpired term. Both Ambres and Perron were elected without opposition to full terms on August 22, 2014.[2]

Method of board member selection
The St. Landry Parish School Board consists of 13 partisan members. Members are elected to represent specific zones or districts of the parish for four-year terms.[4]
Vacancies in the membership of the St. Landry Parish School Board must be filled by appointment of a qualified person within 20 days by the remaining members of the school board. Jolivette and Perron were appointed to temporarily fill the vacancies on the board. Since the unexpired terms were both more than one year in total, a special election had to be held to fill the offices. The general special election was held on October 19, 2013.
