Stacey Pickering
Stacey Pickering (b. July 12, 1968, in Laurel, Mississippi) was the 41st Mississippi State Auditor. Pickering, a Republican, assumed office in January 2008 after his election in November 2007.[1] Pickering resigned from his post in July 2018 to become director of the Mississippi Veterans Affairs Board.[2]
Pickering was re-elected as state auditor in 2011 and won a third term in 2015.[3][4]
Biography
Prior to his election as Mississippi State Auditor, Pickering served in the Mississippi State Senate, representing District 42 from 2004 to 2008. He helped organize and served as founding co-chair of the pro-hunting Mississippi Legislative Sportsman’s Caucus.
Pickering served as state chairman of Mitt Romney's 2012 campaign for President of the United States.[5]

Political career
Mississippi Auditor (2008-2018)
As state auditor, Pickering's main role was to assess state and local governmental and other entities to ensure that public funds are properly used.
Pickering served on the Domestic Working Group for the Office of the Comptroller General of the United States, as well as the Financial Management and Intergovernmental Affairs and Performance Audit Committees for the National Association of State Auditors, Comptrollers and Treasurers and is a member of the National State Auditors Association.[6]

Eleven state executive offices in Mississippi were up for election in 2015. The general election was held on November 3, 2015, following a primary election on August 4, 2015. Runoffs were scheduled for August 25 in case no candidate received a majority (50 percent plus one) of the popular vote in a given primary race.
Pickering defeated Hawkins Butler in the Republican primary and faced challengers Jocelyn Pepper Pritchett (D) and Lajena Walley (I) in the general election.[9]
