Campaign themes

Durham stated the following about his campaign in a Q&A with Vote 411:[1]

Why are you running for the school board?
I enthusiastically chose NISD for my Triplets! If it's not good enough for MY children, it's not good enough for ANY child! I want to be a difference maker in seeing students get the best education possible to instill CONFIDENCE to be future leaders!

How does your background prepare you for this office?
As a Pastor for 35+ years, I have closely worked with parents & students to challenge them to reach their full potential in life. Since I'm not an Educator by trade, this is a positive, assuring I will bring fresh eyes & an unbiased viewpoint!

How will you balance school district revenue with educational needs?
I am a believer in being a good steward of using whatever funds are available. There's never enough money to do what everyone wants to accomplish so that's where understanding and innovation must rise. As a School Board Trustee, we have to work together as a cohesive team to determine the priorities before us in determining what's best for our students!

Explain how you will use your position to improve the quality of education.
I am a creative, innovative thinker. Times have changed & we must stay ahead of the learning curve. I'm a Listener, who will carefully study each issue large or small, as each issue is big to someone. I'm a Learner, as my personal quest led me to attend every School Board Meeting this year as well as all NISD Leadership Meetings to learn how I can better serve my District!

What are the most important issues facing your school district, and how would you address them?
I believe the average person isn't aware of all our District offers. I will champion promoting the myriad of opportunities available so more will actively volunteer to help us be a trend setter all other Districts follow! I intend to look at new, creative ways of improving important issues like school funding, safety upgrades, help for underprivileged, health awareness, attracting better teachers as well as offering more seminars to help students meet today's challenges from bullying to drugs!
