I'm a husband and father. I'm a Nazarene Minister, serving three churches as pastor for 23 years and as a missionary in Ecuador for 6 years. I'm an educator with an earned Ph.D. in Philosophy from SLU. I've taught at the university level for 30 years in philosophy, theology, and ministerial preparation. I'm currently an elementary school substitute teacher in the Pattonville School District. I'm a 9-year veteran of the Missouri Army National Guard being honorably discharged at the rank of Staff Sergeant, E-6. I'm an entrepreneurial leader, establishing two profitable businesses and serving on various boards in the Church of the Nazarene. As community partner, I've worked with several state agencies and para-ministries to tackle today’s challenges such as family court to reunite families, St. Louis Food Bank for food dispersion, organizations to provide necessities for our homeless population, and Thrive St. Louis Healthcare to raise funds to support pregnant women and their families. I'm a mentor for young men who lack a fatherly role model in their life. I'm fluent in Spanish. My worldview is formed by my Christian faith and my broad reading in history, economics and philosophy--with special attention to how these issues affect life. My intellectual influences include the U.S. founding documents, works by Thomas Sowell, Victor David Hanson, and Walter Williams to name a few. Personally, I enjoy fishing and gardening.
  • We have an existential crisis as a result of an open border policy, especially since 2017. With millions entering the country and continuing to live here without documentation, we have no idea of who is here nor how it is possible to assimilate this population into the long-held values of the U.S. Without the proper and historical precedence of vetting immigrants, we are certain to see crime and possible terrorist activity from this group. Illegal immigration also helps facilitate human trafficking and the entry of illegal drugs like fentanyl. I'm for legal immigration. I enjoy different cultures. I've lived as an immigrant. But, we must immediately develop policies which control our border. The identity of the US stands in the balance.
  • Our economy is a train wreck. $35 trillion of national debt is crippling now and will destroy coming generations. We add $1 trillion dollars of debt every 100 days. Our monetary policy of borrow and print increases inflation and lowers the value of the dollar in the U.S. and the world. Our current energy policy has declared war on affordable natural gas and oil and has replaced it with unreliable wind and solar. We have declared war on the molecule CO2, which makes up a minuscule .05% of our atmosphere. We can't 'save' the planet at the expense of destroying our economy. Our welfare state has results in the destruction of family and has created cultural pathologies which accompany children born into one-parent homes.
  • The false woke ideology is fundamentally changing America. It is dismantling of MLK's dream of judging on character instead of skin color. One's identity group is more important than their priorities, decisions and actions. It judges police action based on the skin color of those involved instead of the objective facts. Thus, politicians scream "defund the police" winning votes but not a better St. Louis. Rioters burn down cities without accountability, mindlessly chanting "hands up, don't shoot." This ideology separates 'gender' from biological sex, attempting to castrate with experimental surgery or drugs. We are equally free under the law, but there is no guarantee of equity.
My passions include the open border policy, the $35 trillion national debt, and the enforcement of the first and second amendments, the collusion of the bureaucratic state with giant social media platforms, that we've replaced appeasement for deterrence in our international relations with China, Russia, Iran and other countries. Our justice system permits unpunished felonies and ignores riots that destroys property in the name of social justice. The status of our military readiness is frightening. V.D. Hanson says, "When ideology replaces meritocracy or provides immunity from the consequences of illegal behavior, systemic mediocrity follows." Character (or merit) is more important than one's skin color.
If there was one book that I would recommend for someone wanting to understand my political philosophy it would be Thomas Sowell's, Dismantling America. This book is somewhat more accessible than others that he has written because it is a series of essays written on a plethora of topics in the United States. Although, it does not cover the last seven years, the principles are universal. He presents the idea of a perfect storm, where a variety of circumstances must exist at the same time which result in a total loss of a civilization.

Regarding politics and economics, one of his issues is to judge the policy based on the empirical result and not just on the stated intention. Facts do matter. For example, a bill can be called a "Stimulus Package" with the indication that it will stimulate the economy. However, it is ultimately a way of going further into debt, redistributing wealth, and the government controlling more of our lives. To truly stimulate the economy, Sowell would say that we should simply reduce taxes. Money would go directly into the hands of Americans. That savings would then be directly put into and stimulate the economy.

In another place he states that an entitlement mentality dominates our culture. "The entitlement mentality has eroded the once common belief that you earned things ... instead of being given them." In this book and other places, he documents that 50 years of the Welfare State has not brought people out of poverty, but created an unhealthy dependence on a large, bureaucratic government. I agree. The democrat who currently holds the Missouri District 1 seat believes the opposite.
The key characteristics for an elected official include the following: honesty and transparency; moral courage or the ability to stand for the right against what is popular; critical thinking, able to examine all the evidence and make the correct decisions and not be hustled by cleverly sound bites; strong character based on universal moral principles found in our western tradition; broad understanding of history, philosophy and economics; communication skills to write and speak clearly; an understanding that all people are ultimately responsible to give an account of their lives, the decisions and actions they have done; an understanding of the potential in human nature and the tendencies to be distracted; lead with incentives where people take responsibility for their own lives and not rely upon a large, bureaucratic government; a humble, thankful and constant dependence on God to lead and guide.

We live in a time of dismantling of America, as Thomas Sowell says. For example, BLM, inc., advocates not merely that a portion of our society is important, but according to the original website, advocates Marxism, a destruction of the family unit which has nurtured children through all traditions, cultures and religions. Do not be fooled. Donating to BLM, inc., does not necessarily invest in grassroots, black communities. Instead, it has purchased millions in multiple homes for the founders and questionable grants for their family members. Politicians use the deaths of black youth to promote their own ideology and personal agenda.

Instead of dividing by race, we need to return to the motto of the U.S.: "E Pluribus Unum"--or from many, one. Instead of fragmenting society based on identity, we need to unify our country based on the values of the U.S. founding.

The democrat who currently holds the Missouri District 1 seat has rode the wave of BLM, inc., into political office. Again, do not be fooled. These are not the characteristics which lead to a thriving nation.
It wasn't the first event, but September 11, 2001, was the historical event that impacted me greatly. I was teaching logic at Webster University and pastoring a small church in Fenton, Missouri. For some reason that day I didn't listen to KMOX driving to class. When I arrived in the office area, the secretary mentioned something about the Twin Towers. I didn't think anything of it until I got to my 8 AM class. Our classrooms used small televisions with VCRs. The few already in the class were watching the grainy TV which didn't have an antenna. About halfway through class we watched with horror as the second plane slammed into the second tower. I didn't teach logic that day. In my heart I recommitted to the notion that evil exists and sometimes it must be removed by force. The fear was real. Evil, and therefore good, is real. We were parents of two children in elementary. I resisted the temptation to immediately go and pick them up. But we did cancel an international missions trip we were planning for January. We didn't want both of us to be away from our children at the same time.

I believe the prosperity that we enjoy in the United States is often taken for granted. Sadly, we are now living off the principle of an investment that thousands have made in the grand American experiment. It is now time to wake up to the investment that others have made for us and return to the principles we find in the founding of this great nation--before it is too late.
My first real job was after my freshman year of high school. Six of us guys worked to clear land with little supervision. After the first week, four got fired for laziness and two of us were left to clear land in preparation for a new subdivision. I learned how to work hard without anyone watching. I cashed one of my early paychecks and got a bunch of $1 bills and one $100 bill. I wrapped the big bill around the smaller ones and pretended I was rich. I worked until school started up again.
After the Bible, my favorite book is probably The Brothers Karamasov, by Fyodor Dostoyevsky. Each one of the brothers represent a lifestyle and a worldview. Their interaction and dialogue is genius as Dostoyevsky provides insights into human nature, good and evil, lust, love, materialism, and Christian history and tradition. His pushing of the atheistic worldview to its logical limits is startling and honest: if God is dead anything is possible. Yes, it's a long read in the age of short, social media posts. Perhaps it starts slowly. But the return of the time investment makes one feel as if they have placed the grand themes of life in their proper place.
I love Tolkien and The Lord of the Rings. I might want to be the wise Gandalf with his understanding of history, clear recognition of evil and his trust in Bilbo and Frodo. However, probably I would like to be Frodo, a simple hobbit living in the small shire but who has the nearly impossible task of destroying the ring of power which controls all of Middle Earth. Frodo is an underdog, but somehow is chosen to take the ring. Frodo's strong character is convinced to do the right thing with all of his strength until he is no longer able. I love that Samwise is his totally devoted friend. I'm delighted by the circumstances of 'fortune' (not the right word because it is too close to 'luck') where he encounters personalities and helpful things which propels him on his quest. And I would like to be Frodo who got to hear Bilbo's birthday speech and the see the response of the Shire when Bilbo said, "I don't know half of you half as well as I should like; and I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve."
Our greatest internal challenges are the open border with all of its accompanying problems. Also, our economy is not based on sound principles. Our debt will devour our children. The woke ideology is destroying freedom and the promise of MLK's dream for America. Identity politics creates a culture of victims wanting special privileges because of nothing they have accomplished. Concerning international problems, we have to restore deterrence and eliminate appeasing nations that oppose freedom. We have to restore our military readiness. We need to reassure our allies that we are willing to fight for freedom, and sometimes fighting is necessary.

I agree with Thomas Sowell that we are at a critical time in our country, a situation he calls the dismantling of America. If we are to avoid it, we must return to the values of the United States' founding is critical.
Standing committees of the U.S. House of Representatives that interest me include Energy and Commerce, Ethics, Foreign Affairs, Homeland Security, Oversight and Accountability, and Ways and Means.

Campaign website

Hall’s campaign website stated the following:

Issues

Stop Illegal Immigration
Illegal immigration has exceeded the population of Missouri. Without any controls illegal immigration has resulted in sex trafficking, fentanyl deaths, and many other social pathologies.

Reverse Disastrous Biden Economic Policies
The National Debt has surpassed $35 trillion. Excessive spending has resulted in inflation. We have no energy policy other than don’t do what President Trump did. If things don’t change quickly, buckle up!

Fight Woke Agenda
Reverse DEI policies with the meritocracy on which our country was founded. We are all created equal in the eyes of God.

Defend Life
Missouri is currently a leader in the pro-life movement; however, it will be a continual heavy fight from the pro-abortion side. We must remain vigilant in keeping MO free of abortion clinics.

Reduce Crime
Reverse dangerous policies of defunding police.

Protect 1st And 2nd Amendments
Reverse DEI policies with the meritocracy on which our country was founded. Sever the relationship between government agencies in social media.[2]
