An effort to recall the Standish City Council was underway in Standish, Michigan. The intent to recall petition was filed on October 20, 2009. However, in late October the council voted against a prison to house Guantanamo Bay prisoners, thus ending recall efforts.[1]Defeatedd

The recall effort began after the city council unanimously approved a resolution that expresses interest in hosting a federal prison at the Standish Max Correctional facility. The existing facility is scheduled to close on October 31, 2009 in light of recent budget cuts. Opponents of the approved resolution, The Coalition to Stop Gitmo North, filed the recall petition in October.[2]
