State attorney general appointed to circuit court
July 30, 2009
South Dakota: The attorney general of South Dakota, Larry Long, has been appointed by Governor Rounds to the second judicial circuit, which serves Lincoln and Minnehaha counties. The state 2009 Legislature approved an additional judgeship in the second district, and there was also a vacancy on the court due to the appointment of Glen A. Severson to the South Dakota Supreme Court. Long was one of 11 candidates recommended to the Governor by the South Dakota Judicial Qualifications Commission.
Long will resign from his post as attorney general and that vacancy will be filled later, also by gubernatorial appointment. He said: "I am delighted and honored at the Governor’s appointment, and I will do my best to justify the Governor’s confidence in me".[1]
