Before the 2018 state legislative elections, Democrats controlled 32 state legislative chambers, while Republicans controlled 67. Following the elections, and going into 2019, Democrats controlled 37 chambers and Republicans controlled 61. In the Alaska House, there was a power-sharing agreement between the parties as part of a coalition.
