Washington SJR 133 was on the ballot as a legislatively referred constitutional amendment in Washington on November 3, 1981. It was approved.

A "yes" vote supported this constitutional amendment to:

  • increase the amount of time the secretary of state has to verify signatures for Initiatives to the Legislature to 40 days;
  • provide that the signature requirement for Initiatives to the Legislature is based on the last gubernatorial election at the time of the initiative text being filed with the state, rather than when signatures are due; and
  • prohibit the Legislature from ordering a referendum on an Initiative to the Legislature that legislators adopted.

A "no" vote opposed this constitutional amendment to make changes to the signature submission and verification timelines for Initiatives to the Legislature.
