State senate elections, 2014
42 state senates held general elections in November, 2014. This was in addition to the 45 state houses that held general elections in the midterm election year.
In the 50 states, there are 1,972 state senators. The eight state senates that did not hold a general election in 2014 were Kansas, Louisiana, Minnesota, Mississippi, New Jersey, New Mexico, South Carolina and Virginia.
