Native Texan and rural Hill Country resident. I attended Texas Public Schools and will support Teachers and Public Ed funding. I am a teacher and a professional musician with 25 years experience in group and individual instruction and workshop facilitation. I have worked as a creative arts education consultant for K-12, college and adult learners. I have extensive experience working in Title 1 (highest poverty) schools. I am skilled at working with people and creating community.
  • Climate Change is real and is already impacting Texas. Texas should lead the country in renewable energy development and help us move towards a sustainable future. District 73 is one of the fastest growing areas of the United States and it is in our own best interest to support clean energy, manage our groundwater, preserve open space, and seek options for local control to manage development throughout the Edwards Aquifer recharge zone.
  • Healthcare is a human right. Texas needs Medicaid expansion in order to help boost our struggling state economy, help rural hospitals stay open, create jobs, and take pressure off of property taxes.
  • All Texas students deserve a quality education and I will fight to ensure that every school has the support and resources they need for teachers and students to succeed.
Climate Change is a real and present danger to the future of our species and our society. Texas emits more greenhouse gases and emissions than most countries. We have the capacity to truly be a world leader as we transition to a green and sustainable economy. I am excited about the opportunities in the next session to pass meaningful Climate legislation, incentives, and policies.
Honesty, compassion, open-mindedness and the ability to bring people together instead of further divide us.
Representing the people of the district, no matter their race, gender, identity or partisanship. Too often our leaders get distracted by national issues or cultural issues that are not really relevant to the job of state legislature.
I would like to show other people, esp other women that they can step up and lead. I want to make it easier for others to do the same. I hope to train volunteers and build the Deomoratic infrastructure in this very difficult district.
Vietnam War and the Nixon impeachment. I remember attending anti war protests as a child. Those were both ongoing things but are definitely my earliest memories of historical events.
Lifegaurd, Swim Instructor, Coach. 6 summers in the Texas sun.
The Artist's Way by Julia Cameron. It got me out of a creative professional slump many years ago and I use the core philosophy as a teacher all the time.
Every song gets stuck in my head. My ringtone gets stuck in my head. It's like a jukebox in there. I think Radiohead is playing right now in there.
The greatest challenge is also our greatest opportunity. We need to transition from an oil and gas economy to a renewable energy economy.
I believe in collaboration and working across the isle. We need to work together across our differences to get things done.
Fair and non-partisan process advisory board. Representative districts so voters choose their leaders not the other way around.
My sister district Freshman Rep. Erin Zwiener is a personal hero of mine. She fought and worked her heart out to win a tough district and then went in and worked hard for her district. I am proud to know her.
